The fatigue strength, which depends largely on the surface characteristics, is significantly influenced by Kolsterising®. As a result of Kolsterising®, the fatigue strength is increased by 10 to 100%.

In tensile tests with treated stainless steel thin-foil specimens there is a marked influence on the strength and the ductility since a substancial part of section is affected by the treatment. The 0,2% yield strengthis reduced slightly, whereas both the tensile strength and the elongation increase considerably. The latter phenomenon is exceptional. The stiffness of the foil also increases slightly.
