Kolsterising® offers the solution for austenitic stainless steels by
improving mechanical wear properties without adversely affecting corrosion
resistance.
Kolsterising® is a proven process extending the lifetime of
products thereby imparting economical advantages as well as technical
advantages.
In close collaboration with the French CETIM and the Laboratoire de
Tribologie et Dynamique des Systèmes de l'Ecole Centrale de Lyon the effect
of the Kolsterising® process on austenitic stainless steels was tested. The
results revealed that the Kolsterising® process considerably increases wear
resistance.
Also other wear tests have been carried out using the pin-on-disc
method and the strip-on-plate method, with both components of the same material.
The results revealed that kolsterised steel have a wear resistance comparable to
that of the reference materials (e.g. martensitic AISI 431). Surface roughness
values after a wear test fall into a narrow range, irrespective of the wear
conditions for the kolsterised steels.
